Ipomoea imperati occurs throughout coastal areas of tropical and subtropical regions of the world, including the southeastern United States and the Caribbean. It grows in sandy soils on beaches and coastal dunes. I. imperati is a perennial creeping vine, with stems up to 12 m (or even 30 m) in length. Leaves are alternate, lanceolate or lobed. Flowers are funnel-shaped, white with yellowish centre. Fruit is a rounded capsule.
